Max is now pretty close to walking, but back when we actually took these videos, he was just cruising around, looking for cats to torment

At the moment, Max is thisclose to actual walking, but a few months ago, he'd just figured out how to hang onto the coffee table and cruise around. Crawling, he'd mastered, but it had gotten to the point where we could just let him go around the living room like a little baby obstacle course.

Waaaaaaaaay back in August, Max finally figured out how to stand up on his own. In the crib. All by himself!


Needless to say, he was pretty psyched

and, cause we're nerds, VIDEO of the event!

My brother Adam gave me this giant musical C-3PO Pez container last holiday season. It sat idly on our mantel for about 9 months, until I showed it to Max. Who knew that it would be, well, watch the video and see.

Back in August, we all went on a vacation to Cape Cod, where my grandfather and father's family have spent summers for years. Max had a pretty good time on his trip, hanging out in the Gathering Place's kitchen, flinging around his new favorite toy (courtesy Paige and Luke: soda bottle filled partway with rice). GENIUS.

His greatgrampy also taught him how do blow raspberries, or, as great grampy calls 'em, Bronx Cheers.


And of course, there was some dancing with Miz Karen

We started feeding Max solid foods when he turned six months old. Here is video and photographic evidence from his first feeding on May 30. By now he is an old hand at this, eating some breakfast every day, and starting to have some lunch too with occasional dinners. His favorites are applesauce, pears, peaches, and any other food that has one of those mixed in with it. Anyway, here is where it all started:

I love Jen's expression on this one. That is one damn cute wife I've got.






He really did amazingly well his first time, with a minimum of flinging, spilling, and dribbling.

I've been remiss in posting video lately, so here's a flash from the recent past of Max reaching new heights of, well, reaching -- grabbing at the butterflies on his playmat that were previously unachievable.

Max's doing really well with the head control. While he doesn't always like tummy time, he really likes stitting up with support.

I seem to have collected a considerable amount of blackmail material in my time. Mostly in the form of incriminating photos, but that was before the advent of digital cameras with video capabilities.

And now it's Max's turn.

thanks to Bert and Gena for the coolest toy! Max loves his twirly lights and balls thingamabob (it has a real name, but the box is long gone so I have no idea what it is). It's totally baby crack.

Despite my many many years of babysitting, I never realized that babies sneeze a lot. It's supposedly to clear the nasal passages, but really, I think they do it because it's freaking hilarious.



Also, note Max is learning to blow raspberries!

Max keeps getting better with his hands. Here he is actually holding his caterpillar toy up in the air for brief periods of time.

It's almost like he's practicing for Henry and Milo.
